AJ in our Double Band Chain Ring

In these early days of 2012, I like to take the time to reflect and relish in those memorable moments like this one. Angelina Jolie was so gracious to wear the Double Band Chain Ring in solid 14K yellow gold to the Clinton Global Initiative in 2007. Thanx to her, this ring continues to be our #1 top selling style of all time. Beauty and beauty together = perfection

Love Magazine: The Androgyny Issue

Kate Moss is stunning and making out with transsexual model Lea T., last years face of Givenchy, for the cover of this Spring’s Issue of Love Magazine. The amazing story is beyond, shot by my personal favorites, Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.

What I Love: Sigur Ros- Glosoli

I recently watched the Glosoli video for the very first time.  Aside from my long lived fascination with Iceland, it made me fall in love with red, foxes, lava, hot srings and the limitless spirit of children and nature.  The directors Arni and Kinski teamed up with cinematographer Chris Soos to create this land of a dream.  Of course the genius wardrobe styling was done by Bjork’s stylist and designer, Raven.

What I Love: Boards

These are some of my favorite mood boards that I’ve done but cannot seem to take down.  I look at them everyday and can’t get enough…..Below there is a great shot of Angelica Houston wearing a black hat with a netted veil sitting in the back of a car.  Love her

This is my board where I throw everything I want to look at each season.  There is always such a collage of things, sometimes I’m not really sure where they came from or how they even got there.

What I Love: Grayson with jewels

What is better than my daughter wearing jewelry……..

What I Love: Magdelena

I love everything about this photograph from J.Crew’s Spring 10 collection. This is probably the exact opposite of how I dress but if I lived in my parallel world where I would live on acres of land, make jewelry in my barn and swim in a lake while sweating and drinking sweet tea, I would probably look like her…..with brown hair.

What I Love: Couples I Love Part I

Charles and Ray Eames, will never cease to be one of my favorite couples in design and in life.

What I Love: Couples I Love Part Deux: Toledo Toledo

Something very romantic to me, is 2 people in love and doing the things they love together, inspired by each other. She designs it and he illustrates it, she sits and he paints, he sculpts and she drapes. This has been going on for the past 30 years since they met at age 13. They are the modern day Eames couple of New York City. Their home/atelier is like a dream. Perched in midtown Manhattan and covered in hula hoops and mannequins, this is my fantasy home of all fantasies. Nymag.com did a great piece on the couple at their home here in New York City.

What I Love: St. James Stripes

If you go to Paris, you can buy these on the street carts that are geared to tourists. Ive always had about one or two navy striped shirts or sweaters in my wardrobe. For some reason, I never thought to go to the store on Madison Avenue and buy from the actual brand of where it all began. I became more obsessed and bought one for the whole family. This is a little selection of what their stripes look like

St. James in Normandy

If you visit the store, there will be a picture of a beautiful castle upon the beach. I asked what it was and of course it is the original factory were St. James began and still operates out of today. Of course they have additional location but either way, I am adding this destination to my list of travel destinations. They even give factory tours.

What I Love: More than obsessed

With everything about this pic of Dree. This has sort of been my wardrobe for the past 6 months

Leigh Lazark amazing in Chanel

Guiseppe Zanotti for Ohne Titel… who we adore!

Batwing and sunglasses… Yasmin Sewell, Liberty’s creative director

More Chanel, more to l-o-v-e

Fast forward 25 years and this is me!

What I Love: Thank goodness for Alexander McQueen

Coming off of the fashion weeks galore, I have to be honest…I was loosing a bit of hope. Just when I was about to stop paying attention, I looked to Alexander McQueen. How does one find the time. This is beyond…..anything.

What I Love: Chanel Resort 2010

Stumbled onto this amazing presentation for Resort 2010. Go to style.com for the full collection.

What I Love: While You Were Sleeping

So when you have nothing else to do…why not revamp a pair of shoes! Fashion stylist Britt Bardo has set out to collaborate with Made Her Think to launch a limited edition of studded vintage products. Due out for holiday 2009! Here is a sneak peak of what she will be working on.

What I Love: J. Crew fatigue

Is it me or has anyone else realized that since the decision to cast Charlie Speed in their catalogs, J.Crew mens has become a bit of something to watch and my latest obsession. I went into one of their stores yesterday looking for some crewcuts for Baby G and stumbled into their latest “fatigue” jacket in the men’s section (which i must say, I kind of wanted everything, down to the camper socks). A “small” fit so perfectly that I wondered if I could fall in love the same at Uncle Sams on 8th st. I usually dont like to buy “new” army navy surplus but this one is quite debatable.

What I Love: Home Life

Buuuuuuuuging out over this website. So you know when youre a little girl and you dream about how your barbie dreamhouse is going to be when youre all grown up. Well im all grown up and my house still does not look like this. I am totally inspired. Its like when someone figures out a way to say something that you can’t. Its a new language to express yourself. These rooms are my fantasy that will someday soon become my reality.

And then there’s the guest bathroom and the tea room. Its 4 o’clock, anyone up for some pg tips!!

What I Love: The Dreamers

So, if you havent seen this movie yet and you are over 17 years of age…..go now. I think this would have been more of an obsession when I was 15 or so but I saw it for the first time a bit past that age. This left me with one obsession reguarding this film…..Eva Green and her wardrobe! You absolutely fall in love with Eva Green’s character and the many faces and dresses she wears. This one here with the scarf on her head is one of my all time faves. Any 3 kids who are all charming and beautiful who flop around a Paris flat and play dress up in fabulous house dresses from the 30′s and school uniforms are all a-ok in my book.

What I Love: L’apres la danse

This is a piece from sasha kinens’ circus collection

What I Love: Sasha Kinens

So during the latest MHT sample sale, this sweet and adorable petite blonde stumbled into the studio and did a little shopping. On her way out, she described a painting that she thought I may like. Turns out, she was in fact the painter and so I was intriuged. Immediately after she left, I jumped onto the computer and found her website. She was right and I was hooked. We became fast friends and I now have one of her glorious paintings on loan hanging in my studio. These are two paintings of hers that reminded her of Made Her Think. Sasha Kinens is a humongous talent that has newly arrived in New York City.

What I Love: Girl in the striped blue top!

Sometimes you see pictures of people you know and it breaks your heart. This is one of two that I love.

What I Love: What’s inside the case?

So what you are looking at here is what you see when you come into the MHT studio and peek inside of our semi precious jewelry case. From left to right, it shows: swallow ring, first in oxidized sterling silver with diamonds and then plain with no diamonds. Then we move on to show 2 pairs of swallow earrings. Again, first with diamonds and then without, both in oxidized sterling silver.

On the shelf below, there are sold old books stacked up to make a lovely home for some “fallen gladiator earrings”. In front of them is a vertical “siren ring”. Hanging next to the earrings are 2 necklaces, one is a mini “gemma pendant” and the other is a “gladiator pave ball on chain”. In the foreground sits 2 mini “gemma” rings. They are a mix of rose gold, oxidized sterling silver with and without diamonds.

Lastly you’ll find…

The collection of floating stones live here. White topaz, smokey quartz, oxidized sterling silver and rose gold all mixed in to create this little heaven. If I were to become the incredible shrinking woman, I would live here…in this case. I would sleep atop of books, I would bathe inside of sterling salt servers and stare all day at what would be the life-size sculptures around me. Maybe someone would have to make me a little teeny blanket, and I would be just fine

What I Love: Peak inside MHT’s drawers

Vintage rhinestones

A lot of people ask me if I have a lot of jewelry. They even ask me if I have a lot of vintage jewelry. I guess I sort of do…. If I would to pile it all up and show someone, it would look like a lot…this is one of my favorite places to go. It is the inside of the second drawer of my jewelry armoire. Every girl really must have one. Even if I don’t put anything on, I like to just look. These are vintage rhinestone pieces dating back to the 30′s and probably all the way up to the 80′s.

Vanity

I have always dreamed of having a dressing table in my bedroom. Of course I’ve also always dreamed of having a dressing room for my dressing table. As it stands, I have a shelf in my bathroom. The walls are black and some of my favorite things like my Helmut Newton, “private property” book or my vintage postcard that I found at lido beach in Venice, Italy, sit on display so I can look at them always. This is one of the very many “worlds” you can find when snooping around my apt.

Inside my closet

So inside of my closet there is a lot going on. First to keep it organized…I create a sort of “ambre” of the colors that are inside of it. This makes it easy to find things…..if you are looking for your grey jacket, well, it will be in the grey section. I begin with vintage khaki and then start with the sharp whites….into the vintage whites and cream whites…into the pale grey, dark grey, lilac and then bam! There is the color. At the very right of the top section are the plaids, neons, prints, denims, and what ever else looks out of place in my land of melancholy tones. On the doors, inside, are my longer necklaces that need to hang. This is a section of black necklaces. My tied up and tangled lives here alongside my 34″ rhinestone necklet, victorian black seed bead necklace and my original victorian mourning fringe necklace.

Evening

Every night when I go to sleep, I “de-robe” of all of my jewels. Sometimes, it takes a while on the days when I really pile it on. This is where they all land and when they are not put away, they sort of lay around and create their own nice little story. There is of course one of my favorite elements from Santa Maria novella.

Laying in the sun

I don’t really do much of laying in the sun but I definitely never hesitate to add another pair of sunglasses to the collection. Vintage, new, found, bought, what have you!

What I Love: Chet Baker, lets get lost…

Years ago, a friend introduced me to the music of Chet Baker. We were later sitting having some tea and he said, “turn around….that poster behind you, you know that’s Chet Baker, right”? I almost fell off my chair. I didn’t believe him at first. Since when does someone who sounds like that, look like that?! I was not alone in my fascination, not at all. During the 80′s, after spotting his face on an album cover, Bruce Weber finally met Chet Baker at a club in New York City. This lead to the filming of “Lets Get Lost”, a documentary following Chet Baker’s life from its rise in the 50′s to its decline in the 80′s. Watch this film and get to know what all of the fuss is about. Chet Baker: photographed by William Claxton
